Email from Mr. Allen 8-19-14: (we did practice this today: 8-19)
This week your child will be participating in some practice and drills for our school safety plan. Your child may come home with questions or comments, and we want to make you aware of the changes that are taking place at ECS with regard to keeping our students and teachers safe in the event of an emergency.
Evansville Christian School will be adapting our safe schools protocols to be in line with recommendations from the Evansville Police Department. These protocols are called ALICE, which is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.
The National ALICE website can be viewed at http://www.alicetraining.com/.
The change in safe school protocols comes as there is a shift to reacting to the individuality of a situation, and not just locking doors and shutting lights out. ALICE protocols allow for flexibility to act based on the location of an intruder, and that includes an evacuation, if possible.

The first few grades are in ren-web, if you have trouble viewing those, please let me know.

We are enjoying using class dojo, if you have trouble viewing your child’s account, please let me know. http://www.classdojo.com/
We have discovered that the room tends to be a little chilly as we are not in control in the temperature. If you would like to send in a light jacket for your child to keep in their
locker, that’s fine. I think it feels great, but the kids have been chilly.
I left out a word on our related curriculum schedule. The class for Friday is also gym.
I had the time listed, but no class. The kids should have left their gym clothes in their lockers from today, so if they took it home, they need to bring it back tomorrow.
The first pictures are on the class blog.
This note came from the cafeteria today: There will be a lunch change for Monday Aug. 18. We will be having: Choice 1 - Chicken & Noodles, Choice 2- Hot Dog on Bun, Choice 3- Ham & Cheese
Sandwich, sides: Green Beans, Cucumber slices, Orange Slices, juice, milk
-and- Thursday Aug. 28 we will be having: Choice 1- BBQ Pork Riblet Sandwich,
Choice 2- Cheeseburger, Choice 3- Turkey & Cheese Sandwich, sides: Carrots, broccoli, applesauce, juice, milk
This note came from Light Company: This only affects those of you with kids at multiple campuses: This year’s Light Company bus will be available for East Campus students only (North/Cullen students will need to find alternative transportation). The first day of Light Co. will begin on Wed. Aug. 27.
Also- This week a sample language arts study guide went home. One will go home each
week. The skills featured are the skills on the reading test each Friday. Use this small packet as you desire. It does not need to be returned to me. I do not take a grade or give extra credit on it.
