3rd Grade Living Wax Museum
November 7, 2014
Overall Assignment: Students will read a fiction book, then write and present a report about the author from a main character’s perspective. Students will present their report in first person, as if they are the character, speaking about the author who created them –like they are a part of a Living Wax Museum.
3 Components to this Assignment:
1) Written Report - At least 1 page in length (1st person)
Include the following information in your report:
2) Presentation – 30 seconds long (1st person)
3) Project Board – Tri-fold display
-The background should be a setting that either fits your author
(maybe where they live or where they grew up) or the setting of the book your author wrote.
-Include the facts about your author from your report.
-Include a picture of your author.
-Include pictures of other books your author has written.
- Students will stand in front of their Project Board to present
- Should be accurate, colorful, and neat.

Timeline:
Oct. 3-Oct. 12: Read book by the chosen author.
Week of Oct. 13: Introduce project and begin writing reports
Week of Oct. 20: Finish/Edit reports; discuss props/costumes
Week of Oct. 27: Memorize report and work on visual
Week of Nov. 3: Be ready to present to class (Practice memorization.)

- A welcome and introduction of who you are portraying
- The title of the book and the author
- Facts about the author: Date of birth/death, where they live, other books they’ve written, fun facts, etc.
- Why you recommend this author and what age group you recommend it to
2) Presentation – 30 seconds long (1st person)
- Present the same information as listed above to your classmates.
- Present with clarity and enthusiasm.
- Come dressed in character with any necessary and appropriate props. Students are only required to dress in character on Nov. 7.
- Memorization is not required; 1-2 note cards are allowed to help prompt
- These reports will be presented at our Living Wax Museum on Nov. 7.
